YOUR P.A.R.K. PROJECT UPDATE

Apr 22nd, 2005

Your P.A.R.K. Project has raised $55,000.00 dollars to date. We are currently selling bricks and allowing trees to be sponsored around the playground. We have also just launched a handprint tile campaign geared for children in the community. These tiles will cost $25.00 each and will become a permanent part of the park. The tiles will be available at a "Play Day In The Park" on April 21 at 10am. We will also dedicate May 7th (10am-12pm) as "Family Fun Day" in the park for handprint tiles as well as other unscheduled dates.

We have sold roughly 100 bricks which is not nearly enough. The walkway can accommodate 1800 bricks and it would be nice to have all of them engraved. We have also just mailed 1800 business in the 36606 zip code encouraging them to support the park through purchasing a brick. If you can help spread the word please contact me as we could use more people involved.

We have had a few setbacks with funds that were expected from the City of Mobile. We were expecting $90,000 but we have not received this money to date.

We had a meeting with Fred Rux (Architect) and Dan Otto (Parks and Recreation Department) to determine when we could begin construction and order the equipment with hopes we will receive the $90,000 soon.

From this meeting we decided the following:

  1. Dan Otto will work to get sign off on drawings from Engineering if we need them; we have a verbal okay from PAE and Park & Recreation. As of 4/20/05 this has been delayed and we are now possibly going to have to comply with more detailed drawings, get them approved and assist with getting the money.

  2. Fred Rux to contact local construction company about contributing site work.

  3. T.Bruce MacKinnon to contact Kelly Myers to determine who did project 08's site work.

  4. Dan Otto to contact John Sims to verify what amounts of labor Public Works can contribute and what is the time frame?

We hope to have these items answered by April 28th so we can begin construction as soon as possible.

The following are the anticipated construction steps:

  1. Engineering approval of plans

  2. Site preparation

  3. Concrete forms and paving/soding

  4. Playground footing and ground material Equipment

  5. Fencing, gate and columns

  6. Landscaping and trees

  7. Final amenities

  8. Bricks and pavers

  9. Party
