Wood Park Opens on Mobile Bay

The City of Mobile celebrated the opening of its newest public park at a dedication ceremony. Helen W. Wood Park was officially opened at a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, August 3.

Helen W. Wood Park is located off Dauphin Island Parkway near the Mobile Yacht Club. A boardwalk overlooks beautiful Mobile Bay. A pavilion, restrooms and parking lot are also on hand for public use. Expansion to the park is expected in the future.

Ms. Wood was on hand to open the park. She graciously donated the land to the State of Alabama, who has allowed the City of Mobile to build and maintain the park. Councilman Clinton Johnson, who allocated some of his discretionary funds to pay for the park also took part in the dedication.

The park is open 7 days a week and closes at sundown.
