FIRST RECIPIENT OF DREAM GIVERS HONOR ROLL
CELEBRATING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
Mobile. The Women’s Business Center of Southern Alabama will celebrate Women’s History Month at their third annual luncheon on March 31 at the Museum of Mobile. This year, the Center will recognize Rosa Gerhardt as the first recipient of the Dream Givers Honor Roll, recognizing women from Mobile and Baldwin Counties for their pioneering efforts who have pioneered a path for aspiring women to follow.
Rosa Gerhardt, recently inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame at Judson College, is a true pioneer. Ms. Gerhardt, one of Mobile’s first female lawyers, was the first Alabama woman to serve as president of the Mobile Bar Association. She was elected to the position in 1947. Graduating from Cumberland School of Law (Lebanon,Tennessee) in 1930, and she began practicing law in Mobile. Her quiet, independent nature, and her confidence in her abilities enabled her overcome obstacles presented by the male-dominated profession of law. Her leadership and spirit of helping others has been as inspiration to women in the legal field.
Life enthusiast Frances Meeks enjoys painting in her spare time, and her artwork will be on display during the luncheon. Meeks, who has spent a lifetime living by her motto of “It can be done”, is also a woman who has made her own dreams come true. Ms. Meeks, a Sylacauga native, has charted her own path of 40 years in the real estate field, and is still active in real estate today. She has served on professional and volunteer boards during her career, including Gordon Oaks Second Wind Dream program.
Connie Hudson, Mobile City Councilwoman from District 6, will serve as keynote speaker for the luncheon, and will discuss women achieving their dreams and share her own experiences in achieving her personal and professional goals.
The luncheon is from 11:30 am-1:30 pm, in the Herrin-Chandler Auditorium at the Museum of Mobile. Registration begins at 11:00 am. Tickets are $25 per person; $20 for Emerald Society members. Reservations are required, as seating is limited. Deadline for registration is Monday, March 29th.
