WESTERN BYPASS PROJECT CANCELED

The Alabama Department of Transportation has scuttled its plan for a highway bypass that would link Interstates 65 and 10 trough northern and western Mobile County. Transportation officials said the road was needed to deal with growth in that part of the county and to relieve congestion on I-65 and Airport Blvd. The road was supposed to give people another route to the airport. But, because of so much public and political opposition, the project has been canceled at least for now.
