USA'S HAMMACK ELECTED ALABAMA HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION CHAIR

MOBILE - Stan Hammack, senior hospital administrator and associate vice president for hospital affairs at the University of South Alabama, was elected chair of the Alabama Hospital Association at its recent annual meeting in Point Clear. Hammack most recently served as AlaHA's chair-elect.

"The Alabama Hospital Association, through hospitals such as the USA Hospitals, serves the health care needs of our state through advocacy, representation, education and services," Hammack said. "In today's challenging environment, the Alabama Hospital Association is taking the lead on every issue that is central to quality health care for our communities and the state."

"We are extremely pleased to have someone like Mr. Hammack to guide our organization this year," Mike Horsley, president of the Alabama Hospital Association, said. "Not only has he provided exceptional leadership for his three local hospitals, but he has also proven himself as a leader for hospitals across the state."

Employed with USA Hospitals for nearly 30 years, Hammack has a bachelor's in pharmacy from Auburn University and a master's in public administration from USA. In addition to serving as AlaHA chair, Hammack is a member of the AlaHA Board of Trustees Executive Committee, and is chair of its State Legislative Committee.

He has served as a member of the Alabama Public Health Department's Task Force for the Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) and CHIP Plus (Special Needs Children). He currently serves as manager of the Southwest Alabama Medicaid Maternity Care Program and president of Prepaid Health Plan District #7. He is also a member of the Medicaid Task Force.

Hammack is a past member of the Alabama State Department of Public Health - Licensure Advisory Council; served on the Governor's Healthcare Workers Task Force; past member of the Drug Education and Awareness Council; Chair, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama Hospital Advisory Committee; an associate member of the American College of Healthcare Executives; and a board member for the South Alabama Political Action Committee for Higher Education. He was president of the Southwest Alabama Hospital Council for 1994-95.

The Alabama Hospital Association is a statewide trade organization that represents more than 100 hospitals and numerous other health care providers by offering membership services designed to enhance the provision of health care in Alabama.
