Upcoming Road Closures

Airport Blvd

Beginning Sunday evening at 9:00 P.M., September 18, 2011 Airport Blvd will be resurfaced from Florida Street to I-65. The work will be done at night between the hours of 9:00 P.M. and 5 A.M. beginning Sunday, September 18, 2011 until approximately Friday, September 30, 2011.

The project will take approximately ten days (nights) to complete. The work will not be done on Friday or Saturday nights. No work will be done during the day and the estimated completion is Friday morning, September 30, 2011 by 5:00 A.M.

There will never be a time when all lanes are closed simultaneously, but delays can be expected.

Bankhead Tunnel

Weather permitting, the Bankhead Tunnel on U.S. Highway 98 will be closed Friday, September 16, beginning at 9 p.m., until Monday, September 19, at 5 a.m., for ramp repairs.

Traffic will be detoured to the Wallace Tunnel on Interstate 10 during the closure.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.

Howell's Ferry Road


CN Railroad has scheduled track repairs beginning Monday, September 19, 2011 through Saturday, September 24, 2011, on Howell’s Ferry Road. These tracks are located between Cody Road and Moffett Road. Detour signs will be in place.

Howell’s Ferry Road should be reopened to traffic by the end of the weekend.
