University of Mobile to host GMAC Family Feud, Thanksgiving Food Drive

Oct 25th, 2004

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile is combining a charity event with outstanding collegiate basketball action on Tuesday, Nov. 16, during the GMAC Family Feud & Thanksgiving Food Drive.

The event begins in UM's Pharr Gym at 7:30 p.m. with tip-off of the men's basketball game between UM and Faulkner University. The main objective of the event, which is dubbed "Cover the Pharr," is to collect enough canned goods to cover the floor of Pharr Gym. Free admission will be given to each person who brings in five canned goods to that night's game. The Salvation Army will collect the donations and distribute them to the many families who are less fortunate so that they, too, can enjoy a joyous Thanksgiving holiday.

In addition to the food drive, two families attending that night's game will be selected to compete at halftime in the "FCA Family Feud Challenge." The winning family will receive a 2004 GMAC Bowl VIP Package that includes tickets to the 2004 GMAC Bowl game, t-shirts and pre-game field access.

The event is sponsored by the UM Fellowship of Christian Athletes, The Salvation Army and the GMAC Bowl. For more information, contact Josh Ginsburg in the UM Sports Marketing Department at (251) 442-2264.
