Two Major Sporting Events Coming in 2009

Two major sports events are coming to Mobile next year, including the first Olympic event in our city’s history.

First, Mobile will host a Nike Coach of the Year clinic for coaches at all levels of competition. The date will be in either February or March of 2009 and will be one of several held throughout the nation. Other cities selected include St. Louis, Denver, Dallas, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Seventy-two major college coaches rotate through the various clinics to teach the latest football trends and techniques. A few of the coaches that are contracted include Nick Saban, Mark Richt, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops, Rich Rodriguez and Jim Tressel.

Then in December 2009, Mobile will host the USA American Open Weightlifting Championships. Competitors both male and female will come to Mobile and compete for rankings and to represent the U.S. in various world competitions. Many of those coming in 2009 will compete this summer at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
