Trolleys Rolled Out
Dec 7th, 2001
Four new trolleys--actually, electric buses--were rolled out by City officials at a ceremony held on December 7 at the Plaza de Malaga on Church Street. Metro Transit will operate free trolley service beginning Monday, December 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. along a 3.1-mile route that includes stops on St. Francis, Dauphin, Government, Church and Royal streets. A 25-cent fare will be charged after February 1, 2002. Alabama Power provided the City's 20 percent share of a $1.3 million federal transportation grant to buy the vehicles. City officials describe the trolley as a new "moda" transportation for the "Loda" entertainment district downtown.
