TRAVIS TRITT PITCHES IN TO HELP ALABAMA TOWN AFTER DEVASTATING HURRICANE
Sep 27th, 2004
When Hurricane Ivan slammed into Gulf Shores, Alabama, earlier this month, it may have flattened buildings, but not the spirit of the residents. Now, country superstar Travis Tritt is joining with local agencies to help the people of Alabama rebuild. Tritt is taking advantage of his upcoming Mobile, Alabama, concert appearance to promote several ongoing assistance efforts. In advance of his October 1 concert at the Mobile Bayfest, Travis has partnered with Mobile Mayor Mike Dow and the Baldwin Country chapters of the Salvation Army and Red Cross. Travis will make a guest appearance on radio station WKSJ/Mobile to promote a food drive and other similar programs. Travis will be asking his fans to drop off non-perishable food items as well as baby formula and diapers at designated containers at the event. Travis is also sponsoring with the station a local heroes contest. Listeners may nominate individuals who have done extraordinary work in helping neighbors impacted by the storm. Twenty winners - ten chosen from the mayor's office, ten from the radio station - will receive tickets to the concert and have the opportunity to meet with Travis backstage prior to the show.
Said Travis, "The first song I ever wrote, 'Spend a Little Time,' was written in Gulf Shores. Like the rest of the country, I followed the news about the hurricane and saw the pictures of devastation coming out of Gulf Shores. It struck a chord with me because that place is dear to my heart. I felt I had to do something."
Travis Tritt is currently on tour in support of his newest album "My Honky Tonk History."
