TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR MOBILE

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby recently announced funding for several Mobile area projects. Sen. Shelby says these funds reflect a commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure.

$6-million dollars will go toward continuing the funding necessary to replace the 14 mile CSX Railroad Bridge on the Mobile river.

$8-million has been set aside for the Alabama State Docks. Sen. Shelby says the money will be used for modernizing the Docks by building an intermodal containerized freight terminal.

$1.8-million will be used to accommodate any emerging national high-speed rail network and to reduce hazards at railroad and highway crossing along the Gulf Coast rail corridor between Mobile and new Orleans.

$5-million dollars will be used for the facility that will house the Maritime Center of the Gulf . It will provide an arrival location for a new high-speed ferry terminal and educational complex.

$250,000 goes to accelerate research regarding safety hazards that are inherent to cruise ships and large vessels with high occupancy.

$2-million goes to airport improvement funds for Brookley Field Airport. This funding will be used to continue airport expansion, safety improvements and other projects on the airport's master plan.
