TIES Program Promotes Positive Self-Image

May 10th, 2006

Some special students at Westlawn Elementary School are getting a lesson in life, and fashion. They are members of the TIES program, which promotes self-esteem, pride, respect, motivation and leadership.

TIES stands for Togetherness Improves Everyone’s Success. Once a week, these 4th and 5th graders listen to community leaders who speak about their experiences while encouraging and mentoring to develop the children’s character.

Ties also refers to the students dress, as every Tuesday, they are required to wear a navy blue tie as part of their uniform.
