This Week at Spring Hill College

MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College will host a variety of events this week, many open to the public. Please be sure to add the following to your daily calendar and be sure to call Greg Walker at 414-3203 (605-4477 cell) if you're interested in covering any of the following:

Sophomore Daze, Tuesday - Friday

In an effort to enhance its retention efforts, Spring Hill College is hosting a weeklong series of events designed just for sophomores. Sophomore Daze will feature workshops on choosing a major, managing money, study abroad, developing an e-portfolio and financial aid. Special advisement times and registrar hours will also be open to sophomores. The week will also include a volleyball match on Wednesday, Feb. 18, between the sophomore class and Spring Hill faculty and staff. The 6:30 p.m. match will be followed by an ice cream social.

Student Voter Registration Drive, Wed. - Thurs. Feb. 18-19, Noon

The campus ministry club Students for Justice will host a voter registration drive in the Campus Center on Wednesday and Thursday of this week outside of the cafeteria. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to register. Students for Justice will also be providing information on each candidate in the local and national primaries as they approach.

Stewartfield Lecture, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2-4 p.m.

The Division of Lifelong Learning and Graduate Programs at Spring Hill College will host “Laughing at Stress” with Rosemary McDonald, assistant administrator for admissions at Mercy Medical. The program will explain effective stress management, including responding versus reacting to stress, as well as building adaptability to handle everyday stress. Free and open to the public.

Thursday's (Feb. 19) Christus Lecture Features Dennis O'Keefe

Dennis O'Keefe, director of L'Arche Mobile, will give the fifth in a series of six Christus Lectures at Spring Hill College on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Gautrelet Room. Histopic will be "Spirituality of L’Arche: Matters of the Heart," and will focus on the mission of L'Arche. The Christus Lecture is free to Christus members and $2 for guests.

College to Celebrate Black History Month with Annual GospelFest Thursday, Feb. 19

Many traditions characterize African-American heritage, but perhaps the most emotional of all - gospel music -will be honored by Spring Hill College during its annual GospelFest concert Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Ignatius Chapel in Murray Hall. Seven choirs from across the area will be featured. GospelFest is a free event and is open to the public.
