The Wave Rolls Out "Try Transit Week"

Mayor Sam Jones and Tyrone Parker, the general manager of The Wave Transit System kicked off Try Transit Week in the City of Mobile. Events will run from Monday through Friday, September 8 - 12. Try Transit Week is an opportunity for citizens of Mobile to experience public transit if it has been a while, or if they have never ridden the bus before.

"There are many good reasons to use public transportation – the most obvious is, of course, to save money," said Mayor Jones. "According to a recent study, a person can save up to eight- thousand dollars per year by taking public transportation."

Here's a look at this week's events:

Monday, 9.8.08
Kick off Press Conference
Government Plaza (10:00 a.m.) with Mayor Sam Jones

Tuesday, 9.9.08
Employee Appreciation Day
(Wave Transit Employees will be recognized for dedicated service)

Wednesday, 9.10.08
“Ride for a Can Day” to benefit the Bay Area Food Bank.
Donate a canned or boxed food item between the hours of 6:00 am & noon and receive a discounted rate
(.25 cents off The Wave’s regular fare structure.)

Thursday, 9.11.08
Prize Patrol
(Management will board random buses and hand out “goodies” to passengers for patronage of The Wave)

Friday, 9.12.08
Passenger Appreciation Day
