The City Welcomes Barbara Drummond

Mobile Mayor Sam Jones has restructured city administration, naming Barbara Drummond as Executive Director of the city's Administrative Services and Community Affairs Division.

Drummond, the former director of the Mobile County Commission's Public Affairs/Community Services department, will oversee the city's public relations, Municipal Information and Geographic Information Systems departments, Main Street Mobile and the Office of Special Events.

As an employee with county government for the past 11 years, coupled with more than 20 years as a reporter/columnist with the Mobile Register, Jones said, "she has the management experience and the ability to enhance the city's external efforts in involving citizens into city government."

Drummond community services include:

  • Board member of the Community Foundation of Southwest Alabama;

  • Past president, Women's Fund of Southern Alabama;

  • 2005 United Way of Southwest Alabama cabinet;

  • Board member of BayFest;

  • Member of Bedsole Scholars Selection Committee.


Professional affiliations include:

  • Past president of the National Association of County Information Officers;

  • Graduate of Leadership Mobile;

  • Graduate of Leadership Alabama.


She is a graduate of Murphy High School and the University of South Alabama where she received a Bachelor's of Arts degree in communications. Drummond, the mother of one daughter, is a member of the Delaware Street Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as a Sunday School teacher.
