The City of Mobile expands Winter Wonderland's footprint in Downtown Mobile
Dec 17th, 2015
Following the success of last year's first annual Winter Wonderland, the City of Mobile is expanding the holiday event to Cathedral and Bienville Squares this year. The community can enjoy festive activities in both parks this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and can travel back and forth to locations either on foot or by train."The holiday season is an important time for our community to come together," said Mayor Stimpson. "Last year, I made a promise to the citizens of Mobile that our Christmas celebration would be bigger and better than ever before. You won't find more free, family fun anywhere else in the region."
In Cathedral Square, you can play in no less than 6 tons of snow, sip coffee and hot chocolate provided by the Salvation Army, enjoy music by Peek, make holiday crafts, take a selfie in the photo booth and shop for last minute Christmas gifts at the Christmas market. Mirrored after the Christmas market in Hamburg, Germany, the market will feature presents, locally grown produce and baked goods.
"When I was in Hamburg to recruit Airbus suppliers, I had the opportunity to see their famed Christmas Market," said Stimpson. "I wanted to knit together that old world experience with our Southern charm."
After you've shopped until you've dropped, head on over to Bienville Square for Food Truck Community Day. Bring a can to support the Bay Area Food Bank and bring your appetite to support our local food trucks. Children can also perform on the Kids Karaoke Stage and take photos with Santa and Frozen characters Anna, Elsa and Kristoff.
Other activities include balloon clowns, face painting, Uncle Joe's Rolling Zoo, sidewalk chalk, letters to Santa, an inflatable slide and obstacle course, storytelling by the Mobile Public Library and the Fun Mobile.
