The Azaleas, and the Trails, are Back
Mar 6th, 2009
For generations, families from throughout the Southeast have come to Mobile in the Spring to follow the Azalea Trail. The driving trails offer a stunning vision of the unofficial symbol of the City of Mobile. The azaleas bloom here along the Gulf Coast like nowhere else on Earth. Now, thanks to Keep Mobile Beautiful and the City of Mobile GIS Department, we are happy to bring back the historic Azalea Trail maps.Keep Mobile Beautiful has been working to restore the beauty of the trail, planting a half mile of azaleas down the medians of Spring Hill Avenue. More plantings are coming soon, and you can make a lasting contribution through an Azalea Trail Bond. At $10 each, the bonds help pay for the planting and maintenance of these beautiful bushes.
The three trails meander through unique parts of our city: the Historic Trail which stretches from downtown to midtown west, the Sky Ranch/Cottage Hill Trail just north of Highway 90 and (appropriately) Azalea Road, and the longest, the Spring Hill/University Trail through west Mobile.
