THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Mar 5th, 2003

A 9-1-1 dispatcher and two firemedics are being recognized for their response and service to a Mobile woman who needed their help.

John Strauss wrote a letter to Mayor Mike Dow telling him about a frightening night in January when he called on Mobile's Fire Rescue Department.

January 18 John Strauss' wife collapsed in their home. He says her speech was slurred and unintelligible. She was being treated for diabetes, but Mr. Strauss feared his wife was having a stroke.

Strauss called 9-1-1 and he says in very short order paramedics D.J. Larry and Donny Pettis from the Springhill Station arrived. They took only a few minutes to diagnose Mrs. Strauss' problem he says, by pricking her finger and finding that her blood sugar was extremely low. They administered a dosage to her tongue and Mr. Strauss says his wife responded almost immediately and didn't need to go to a hospital.

"What more can I say of your service so readily available, so highly trained and skilled? Fantastically available. Thank you Mobile", Strauss wrote.

Mayor Dow adds his congratulations and thanks for a job well done to D.J. Larry and Donny Pettis.
