Stimpson Administration presents Map for Mobile to City Council

Sep 30th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - The Stimpson Administration presented the Map for Mobile, the City of Mobile's comprehensive long range plan, to the Mobile City Council on Tuesday. The plan outlines methods and approaches the City will follow starting in 2016 to implement zoning, land use, code and ordinance changes and capital improvement priorities.

"We embarked this year on a city-wide comprehensive planning process that has not been undertaken for decades," said Mayor Stimpson. "Citizen involvement was the top priority for this plan, and we have developed this framework that can be used to guide decisions and changes."

The plan will be presented to the Planning Commission for adoption during their regular meeting on Thursday. The public notification period will begin directly following the meeting.

Citizens are invited to review the plan online at www.mapformobile.org and in locations across the city including Mobile Public Library branches, City recreation centers, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, the Mobile Minority Business Development Agency Business Center, the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Community Center, the Via Health, Fitness & Enrichment Center, the WAVE at GM&O, the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission and the Clinton L. Johnson Economic Development Center. More sites to access the plan will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Planning Commission will host a public hearing to discuss the Map for Mobile on November 5 during their regular meeting.

"We will be working together to implement this plan and use it as a 'living document' with action plans developed and reviewed on an annual basis," said Stimpson. "Cities rely on leadership to help foster growth and be catalysts for collaboration and cooperation."
