State of the City Address

Mayor Mike Dow reiterated his desire to lower the municipal sales tax but it did not mean eliminating taxes. Mayor Dow focused on the tax reform plans he has while mentioning that the city had recently repealed the 2 percent out-of-county tax. He stated that tax reform does not mean eliminating taxes but it means creating a more comptetitive, equitable and stable system of taxation.

Mayor Dow heralded restoration of the downtown Battle House hotel and the Retirement Systems of Alabama office tower being built next door to the Battle House hotel. Mayor Dow said there were plans for a maritime center and the city is trying to attract a cruise ship line.
