Spring Hill's Ken Weber to Perform Franz Shubert's "Winterreise"

Jan 27th, 2005

MOBILE, Ala. - The Spring Hill College Department of Fine and Performing Arts presents Ken Weber, baritone, and Bob Holm, piano, performing Franz Schubert's "Winterreise", Thursday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eichold Gallery on the campus of Spring Hill College.

"Winterreise" is perhaps the greatest song cycle ever written. Franz Schubert set to music the evocative poetry of his contemporary, German lyricist Wilhelm Müller. It is a heart-rending portrayal of a winter journey full of misery and woe.

Ken Weber completed his undergraduate work at Boston College and holds a master of music in vocal performance from New England Conservatory of Music. He currently works full-time in the office of Campus Ministry at Spring Hill College, coordinating liturgy and music. He has become a regular soloist in the area with such groups as Musica Sacra, the St. Paul Choral Society, and the Mobile Opera, where he debuted last spring as Pish-Tush in their production of The Mikado.

Pianist Bob Holm performs regularly with the Mobile Symphony and teaches piano performance and accompanying at the University of South Alabama. Holm is currently presenting the complete Beethoven sonatas in recitals throughout the country.

Admission to Thursday's recital is free, and a reception will follow.  For information, call 251-380-3494 or email kweber@shc.edu.
