Spring Hill to Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. with Candlelight Vigil and Video Screening

Jan 4th, 2005

Mobile, Ala. - Spring Hill College will host a candlelight march from MacLean Plaza at its campus center to the Ben May Conference Center in Yancey Hall to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, Jan. 13. The public is invited to join the 5:30 p.m. march and to stay for a screening of the documentary "With All Deliberate Speed." The film explores the multiple court cases that led to the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954.

"As we celebrate 50 years of integration at Spring Hill this year, we honor those who worked and continue to work so tirelessly for civil rights," said Tracey Childs, associate dean of Student Affairs. "As we show our appreciation for Dr, King and his dream, we remember those who sparked that dream even earlier, including our first African-American students at the College."

Childs said the College's march is being held on Thursday prior to the national holiday to encourage more involvement from the campus and local community. For more information or directions, call the Office of Student Affairs at 251-380-3027.
