Spring Hill hosts candlelight vigil to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.
Jan 6th, 2004
Mobile, Ala. - Spring Hill College will host a candlelight march from the Campus Center's MacLean Plaza to Stewartfield to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, Jan. 15. The public is invited to join the 5:30 p.m. march and to stay for roundtable discussions led by members of the College's Multicultural Student Union. The discussions will focus on King's ideas as found in his various speeches."Although many things have changed in the world and on campus since integration at Spring Hill, we want to make sure people understand there is still much work to be done towards keeping Martin Luther KingĀ¹s dream alive," said Tracey Childs, associate dean of Student Affairs. "We want our students to take ownership of that dream and to consider how they help make the dream a reality."
Childs said the College's march is being held on King's birthday instead of on the national holiday to encourage more involvement from the campus and local community. For more information or directions, call Student Affairs at 251-380-3025.
