Spring Hill College to Host Annual Outlaw Memorial Classic Golf Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College will honor a former Mobile mayor and College alumnus Saturday, November 1, when it hosts the second-annual Arthur R. Outlaw Memorial Golf Classic. Part of the College's Hall of fame Weekend activities, the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. at the Spring Hill Golf Course and will feature a hole-in-one contest with an opportunity to win an automobile, courtesy of Joe Bullard Automotive. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Spring Hill College athletics.The Arthur R. Outlaw Memorial Classic will feature a four-person scramble format and will begin with a shotgun start. Lunch, tee favors, and refreshments are included in the $100 per person entry fee and teams may register for $375. Prizes will be awarded for team score, closest to the pin, longest drive as well as the hole-in-one contest. Sponsorships are also available.
Outlaw graduated from Spring Hill in 1950 with a major in economics and a minor in accounting. He was a member of Spring Hill's Board of Trustees, and the College's student recreation center is named in his honor. Outlaw began his tenure with Morrison's Cafeteria's, Inc. in the accounting department and rose to become vice chairman of its board of directors. He was chairman of the board at Ruby Tuesday’s until his retirement in 1998. He served as public safety commissioner from 1965 to 1969 and as mayor of Mobile from 1985 to 1989.
