SHC Renaissance Affaire to Benefit Chapel Restoration and Library Construction

Jun 8th, 2004

Mobile, Ala. - Spring Hill College will step briefly back to the 16th Century on Thursday, June 24, when it hosts A Renaissance Affaire to benefit the restoration of St. Joseph Chapel and the construction of the Marnie and John Burke Memorial Library on the College campus. The 6:30 p.m. event will feature hors d'oeuvres on the College’s new Rydex Commons as well as tours of the chapel and library, Celtic music, and entertainment by period actors, jesters, and wandering minstrels.

"The Renaissance was an age in which society’s art, architecture, economy and intellectual thought turned in new directions," said Ron Ferreri, vice president for Development & College Relations. "At Spring Hill, we’re celebrating the spirit of the Renaissance and the rebirth of the campus symbolized by the restoration of St. Joseph Chapel and the construction of our new library."

While the chapel and library will not officially open until July, attendees at A Renaissance Affaire will get an advanced look at both facilities, including a view of the interior restoration work of St. Joseph Chapel and the new technology featured in the Marnie and John Burke Memorial Library. Construction on both facilities began in the summer of 2003.

To add some mischief to the evening’s event, attendees will receive a mask with their ticket and are asked to decorate the mask prior to arriving at A Renaissance Affaire. Tickets to A Renaissance Affaire are $75 each and the event is open to the public. To purchase your ticket and receive your mask, contact Karen Edwards at 251-414-3205 or email kedwards@shc.edu.
