Service Update from Comcast

Comcast making progress in service restoration effort

(Mobile, AL) - September 20, 2004 -- Comcast technicians have been working around the clock to restore service outages. We are already aware of outages that are affecting an entire neighborhood, but if your neighbors have cable service and you don’t, call 476-7600 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to report the problem.

Comcast assessment teams are currently fanning out throughout the Mobile area, including the Dauphin Island area, to evaluate the extent of damage from Hurricane Ivan. Our crews are poised to follow power company restoration teams into affected areas to restore service outages.

We have determined that many of the service related problems are related to power outages. Comcast service is up and running in the majority of the homes that have had power restored. The remainder of service problems are currently being evaluated and work on repairing those facilities has begun.

Here are answers to some typical questions we have been receiving:

Why did I lose cable and still have power?
The utilities are often fed from a different power supply source than the cable, so the facilities serving your home might be in an area that has lost commercial power.

How long will my cable be out?
In areas that we know an entire neighborhood is out, we are working behind the power company to restore the services immediately. In an isolated case where cable service does not come back after power is restored outages will be worked by an area basis rather than by an appointment basis.

Other Helpful Hints:
  • Do you have power? In many cases the reason your cable doesn’t work is because the power is out.
  • Are there any barriers to access? Are their any downed trees that severed the cable wire, which connects your cable service to a nearby pole?
  • If there any lines down in your area do not touch them. Do not assume the line is a cable or telephone line it could be a charged electric line. The power company will pass through your area and determine the danger of any wires that have been disconnected.

We would like to thank the community for their patience and support.
