SANITARY SEWER OVERFLOW REPORTED

Jul 6th, 2004

Velma & West Highland Streets - Prichard, AL
Health Advisory Issued

Prichard Water Works has notified the Mobile County Health Department of approximately 10,000 gallons of untreated sewage that overflowed at the intersection of Velma and West Highland Streets due to lift station failure from lightening strike. The discharge has been identified and repaired.

Dr. Bernard Eichold, Health Officer, Mobile County Health Department, advises area residents to take precautions when using Toulmins Springs Branch for recreational purposes due to this release of untreated sewage. All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. Individuals should wash hands after cleaning fish/seafood and before preparing food.
