RONALD McDONALD HOUSEĀ® RADIOTHON TO BENEFIT FAMILIES OF SERIOUSLY ILL OR INJURED CHILDREN FROM SOUTHERN ALABAMA AND SOUTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI


MOBILE - The Fourth Annual Ronald McDonald House Radiothon will be broadcast on Thursday and Friday, April 1-2nd over WABB-97FM. The radiothon will raise funds for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile and those families whose children are receiving treatment for serious illnesses, injuries or birth defects at any Mobile area hospital or medical clinic.

The broadcast will begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 1st and end at 12 Noon on Friday, April 2nd with WABB's Morning Guys, Matt McCoy and Jay Hastings, as hosts of this annual fundraising effort. In addition to the usual mix of music and news, WABB-97FM will feature interviews with local and regional celebrities and families who are familiar with the charity known nationally as "The House That Love Built!" Throughout the radiothon listeners will be encouraged to call the Ronald McDonald House toll free at 866-RMH-KIDS to pledge their support.

To add excitement to the radiothon, WABB-97FM will broadcast live from Wing's Sports Grille at 3673 Airport Blvd. in Mobile from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with special meal discounts designed to raise additional funds for the House. On Friday morning, the Radiothon will shift to the Ronald McDonald House, broadcasting live from 6 a.m. to 12 Noon.

In addition to WABB-97FM, sponsors include Bebo's Express Car Wash, Bel Air Cleaners, Church's Chicken, Comcast Cable, DuPont Agricultural Products, Gulf Coast McDonald's Restaurants in Alabama and Mississippi, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Master Cleaners, Mobile BayBears, Office Depot, Regions Bank, Signs Now/Azalea Rd. and Wings Sports Grille.

Various incentives will be offered to donors who contribute at least $25 using their credit card, including coupons good for doughnuts, chicken dinners, car washes, and baseball tickets.

More than 50 volunteers from a variety of civic, service and business groups will assist the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile by answering telephones during the radiothon.

Located at 1626 Springhill Ave., the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile is a temporary home for families whose children are receiving specialized medical treatment for serious illnesses, injuries or birth defects at USA Children's and Women's Hospital, Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, and other Mobile area hospitals. Since the House opened its doors on February 28, 2000, more than 1,100 families have been welcomed to this warm, caring home-away-from-home.
