Ring in the New Year in Downtown
Dec 21st, 2007
Mobile’s annual Fireworks Show will have a new twist to usher in 2008. A Block Party has been added to the downtown celebration as a prelude to the fireworks display. The Block party will be held on Royal Street between Church and Monroe Streets in the Fort Conde area. The party will feature the band Emerge. In addition, The Mobile Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will feature a one hour display of music, dance and readings as part of the city’s Kwanzaa celebration. Kwanzaa is a non-religious celebration of Culture, Community and Family.
The activities will start at 9 p.m. with the Kwanzaa celebration, followed by Emerge at 10 p.m. and the fireworks display at midnight.
In past years, Cooper-River Park has been used as a viewing area but the park is closed due to construction. The new site provides an obstruction free viewing area for the fireworks display.
