Results of Hank Aaron Sweep to be Revealed

The results of a sweep of areas around downtown Mobile to bring dilapidated buildings up to code will be revealed at a news conference on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in the CitiSmart Room of Government Plaza starting at 3:00 p.m.

In April of this year, Mayor Sam Jones dispatched inspectors from the city’s Urban Development, Fire-Rescue Department, and the Historic Development Commission into the area to cite code violations including:

Urban Development

Open windows and doorways
Falling boards and bricks from exterior walls
Rotten foundations
Damaged roofs
Secured overhang extensions (i.e. canopies, metal awnings, etc.)
High weeds and grass
Abandoned junk and/or vehicles
Debris and Trash

Fire-Rescue Department

Conditions that are deemed a clear and inimical threat to human life, safety or health

Mobile Historic Development

Unoccupied properties foundations that are unsafe
Exterior walls with holes, breaks, loose or rotting boards
Roofs structurally unsafe and unsound
Stairs, porches that are unsafe and unsound
Broken windows and doors
