RECYCLE THOSE OLD PHONE BOOKS

Jul 3rd, 2004

New ones are out and the old ones are in - the bin, the recycling bin, we hope!

The new Bell South Real Yellow Pages are now in the hands of customers all over the Mobile area so Keep Mobile Beautiful wants everyone to recycle their old phone directories.

KMB has teamed up with Bell South, Recycled Fibers and Waste Management to recycle the old directories between now and July 19.

To recycle your old directories take them to the nearest branch of Regions Bank and look for the big yellow bin at the following locations:

Bel Air - Airport Blvd. @ Sage Avenue

Crichton - Springhill Ave. @ Bay Shore Ave.

Dauphin Island Parkway - DIP @ Old Military Road

Loop - Airport Boulevard (adjacent to new branch)

Regency - Bruno's @ Airport & University (2 boxes)

Regency Financial Center - 891 Hillcrest

Skyline - 4100 Government Boulevard

Springhill - Old Shell @ McGregor

University - University 2 Old Shell

Downtown - N/E Corner of Bienville Square

Tillman's Corner east of I-10

Or take them to the Metro Recycling Center at 1451 Government Street.

Large quantities of books can be taken directly to Mobile Paperboard on Mobile Street or to  Recycled Fibers located on the Brookley Industrial Complex.  Let them know you have phone books for Keep Mobile Beautiful.

Money generated from Recycled Fibers for the old telephone books will be donated to Junior Achievement of Mobile.  This money will enable JA to teach the Economics of Staying in School (ESIS) to approximately 4000 eighth graders at the beginning of the 2004-2005 school term. ESIS teaches students the importance of an education.  The classes are taught by local business men and women.  They help students explore their personal skills and interests, various career opportunities, personal budgeting, and the consequences of the decisions they make.  They are encouraged to define what success means for them individually and to set goals to attain it.

So when your old telephone book outlives its usefulness, recycle it and put it to work helping kids decide to stay in school.
