Proclamations: Walter S. Dickerson, Claire Magruder

Jun 23rd, 2009

Council President Reggie Copeland read two proclamations at the June 23, 2009 Council Meeting. One was given to retiring Mobile County Emergency Management Agency Director Walt Dickerson, and the other was given to Claire Magruder on her induction into the Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame.

Dickerson has worked at the MCEMA for the past twelve years in several capacities, serving as Plans and Operations Officer and Director, and most recently as the Director of the Agency during some of the most active hurricane seasons in recent memory. He also served our nation for 21 years as a United States Marine, earning decorations in Valor during the Vietnam War.

Claire Black Magruder, who has spent so much of her time and talent in spreading the game of tennis to those in and around Mobile and throughout the state, was honored for being inducted into the Alabama Tennis Hall of Fame.

She has been a credit to the game of tennis both on and off the courts; her ability has earned her numerous titles and local, state, southern, and national rankings by the United States Tennis Association as well as a list of honors and awards.
