Proclamations: Volunteer Week, Jobs Fair, Friendship Baptist Church

Mayor Jones's Chief of Staff Al Stokes presented a proclamation to Diana Brinson, Development Director of Volunteer Mobile, and Claire McCarron, Chairwoman of their Board of Directors, for Volunteer Week in Mobile. Here are some stats about volunteers:

Nearly 84 million American adults volunteer, representing the equivalent of over 9 million full-time employees;

Tens of thousands of citizens of Mobile give in excess of one million volunteer hours per year;

Volunteers provide valuable services that improve the quality of life in our community with a dollar value at more than $239 billion annually.

Also at the council meeting, Councilmen Fred Richardson and Clinton Johnson thanked several companies for participating in their joint jobs fair last week at the Dumas Wesley Community Center. Several businesses and hundreds of job seekers were connected as a result of the jobs fair.

Finally, Councilwoman Gina Gregory presented a proclamation to honor Friendship Baptist Church's 60th anniversary to several members of the church. Friendship is located on Cody Rd in the area annexed last September.
