Proclamations: Officer of the Month, Life Insurance Awareness Month, International Literacy Week

Mayor Jones made three proclamation presentations at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2008. First, Detective Dennis Owens was honored for his accomplishments as the Officer of the Month for August. The three-year veteran works out of the First Precinct.

Mayor Jones welcomed Ms. Susan Day, the President of the Mobile Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers. Her group asked that the City recognize September as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Also attending the council meeting were members of the Board of the Mobile Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers.

Finally, members of area Rotary Clubs were given a proclamation for their efforts with International Literacy Week. The Rotary Clubs of the Mobile area (Downtown, Mobile West and Sunrise) and the other 44 Rotary Clubs in District 6880 of Rotary International will join the fight to raise the literacy rates in Alabama by donating dictionaries to every 3rd grade child in public school in the District.
