Proclamations: Officer of the Month, Heroes in the Fight Winners

Mayor Sam Jones’s Chief of Staff, Al Stokes, presented the Officer of the Month Proclamation and certificates to several advocates for mental health awareness at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

First, Chief Stokes honored Officer Robert Brent Hahlen as the officer of the Month for his exceptional performance and dedication to duty during the month of September. On September 05, 2008, Officer Hahlen responded to the Russell School located at 300 Broad Street in reference to a subject removing copper and aluminum from the Air conditioning units. Officer Hahlen responded and placed a close patrol on the location. On September 6, 2008, Officer Hahlen was performing a close patrol of the Russell School and observed a subject cutting copper tubing from one of the air conditioning Units. The subject was apprehended and admitted to both incidents.

Also at the Council Meeting, Chief Stokes presented Certificates of Recognition to seven local winners of Mental Health American and Eli Lilly “Heroes in the Fight” awards. Two of them also won statewide awards. The recipients were Dr. Charles E. Smith, Lucindia Claghorn, Tuerk Schlesinger, Rebecca Bachelor, Frances Coleman, Olivia Nettles, Government Street Presbyterian Church.
