Proclamations: John Edd Thompson, Lawrence Auer, Historic Preservation Month

May 6th, 2009

Mayor Sam Jones welcomed several special guests to the City Council meeting on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 to receive proclamations or certificates.

WALA-TV Chief Meteorologist John Edd Thompson was honored for his 32 years of service to the citizens of the Gulf Coast. Covering every major weather event for more than 3 decades, John Edd Thompson has become more than a weatherman. He has become a friend to everyone who has relied on his weather expertise and steady hand through the storms.

Next month, John Edd will sign off for the final time and exchange his weather computer for a life of relaxation in retirement.

Azalea City Golf Course Golf Pro Lawrence Auer was honored for winning the 2008 Dixie Section PGA Golf Professional of the Year. That is the highest honor awarded by the PGA of America.

Mr. Auer has served as Golf Pro since 2004. They have made several great expansions and improvements under his leadership.

Finally, Mayor Jones recognized May as National Historic Preservation Month. The preservation of Mobile's history is of the utmost importance to city government. We are lucky to have the dedication of the Historic Development Commission to keep this mission alive. Mobile Historic Development Commission president Rennie Brabner accepted the proclamation.
