Proclamation: Officer of the Month William Tomberlin

Apr 8th, 2008

Mobile Police Department’s Officer of the Month for March nabbed a bank robber in the midst of a getaway, made an arrest on a forged prescription, caught a subject stealing an air conditioner and arrested a couple of auto burglars on five felony charges.

Officer William Tomberlin will be honored for his exemplary performance at the Officer of the Month luncheon Tuesday, April 8, at the Knights of Columbus building, 3051 Pleasant Valley Road. The luncheon is sponsored by the Midtown Optimist Club.

Tomberlin, 29, is credited with getting the Regions Bank robber March 4 as he was making his getaway on I-65. He had stationed himself in an area that gave him a view of vehicles traveling through the Fourth Precinct, where he works. He noticed a car fitting the description of the suspect’s vehicle and pulled it over on the interstate, between Dauphin St. and Airport Boulevard. The driver matched the robber’s description and had the stolen money in his clothing. For the month, Tomberlin answered 53 calls for service, making five felony arrests.

A graduate of Murphy High School, Tomberlin joined the Department in 2006. He is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
