PLANS UNDERWAY FOR NEW SAM'S AT SPRINGDALE MALL

Jun 12th, 2003

The Mobile Planning Commission has approved a subdivision request for Springdale Mall-a move that could lead to construction of a Sam's Club there. All six commission members who were present voted for the subdivision request, which would allow Sam's Club to purchase the land where a vacant Dillard's store now sits. The Commission also approved a request for a planned unit development which would allow Sam's to share parking and access at the mall.

Sam's Club is planning to tear down the the Dillard's building, which is connected to the indoor mall portion of Springdale, and build one of its free-standing warehouse style stores.

Representatives of Wal-Mart say they hope to open the new store by the end of 2004. The current Sam's Club located on Beltline Highway will close.
