Paving, limited lane closures on Zeigler Blvd. to begin Sept. 5
Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile and its contractors will be paving the section of Zeigler Blvd. between University Blvd. and Forest Hill Drive beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5.
This paving work will require daily lane closures, but the road will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic. Workers and equipment will be active in the roadway during this time. The paving of this section of the project is expected to be completed by Friday, Sept. 15, though all activities are weather-dependent. Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone, especially at night, and keep watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
The paving work beginning next week is part of Phase Two of the ongoing Ziegler Blvd. Project. The existing two-lane roadway between Athey Road and Forest Hill Drive is being widened to five lanes, and curb and gutter features, bike lanes and sidewalks are being added on both sides of the roadway. Phase 1 previously made similar improvements to Ziegler Blvd. between Schillinger and Cody roads.
Altogether, the Ziegler Blvd. Project represents a more than $30 million investment into one of Mobile’s most highly trafficked corridors. It will alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is supported by federal, state and local dollars.
