Operation Unity Nets 14 Guilty Pleas

Jun 1st, 2006

Mobile Mayor Sam Jones, along with interim police chief Lester Hargrove announced another victory for the Mobile Police Department and Operation Unity. As part of the third phase of Operation Unity in April, the Mobile Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Unit arrested 16 individuals on Trafficking and Distributing drug charges, included two that had sold to minors.

With cooperation from the Mobile County District Attorney’s office, the Mobile Police Department put together such a strong case, 14 of the individuals have already pleaded guilty. One of the other individuals is expected to plead guilty. Their sentences range from 7 years to more than 20 years behind bars.

“This is a great culmination for Operation Unity,” said Mayor Jones. “But our efforts are ongoing. We will continue to fight crime and rid our city of those who would poison it with drugs and violence.”

In total, Operation Unity led to 132 individuals being arrested, including 71 felonies and 44 misdemeanors.
