Officer of the Month Awarded Proclamation by Mayor Jones

Mayor Sam Jones, along the Police Chief Micheal Williams, awarded the Officer of the Month proclamation to Officer Daniel Moody at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.Here's a rundown of what Officer Moody accomplished during the month of April:
On April 6, 2012 Officer Moody initiated a traffic stop in which the driver was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun without a pistol permit. The driver was arrested for No Pistol Permit. On April 13, 2012 Officer Moody attempted to serve a Burglary warrant and observed the suspect flee the residence on foot. Officer Moody was able to catch the suspect and found him to be in possession marijuana. The suspect was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, Failure to Obey, and Resisting Arrest. On April 19, 2012 Officer Moody initiated a traffic stop when he observed the driver throw out a 2-liter bottle from the vehicle. The bottle was found to contain codeine syrup. A search of the vehicle revealed a baby bottle containing codeine. The suspects were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and were transported to Metro Jail. On April 20, 2012 Officer Moody observed a suspect that had a warrant for Receiving Stolen Property First. The suspect fled but was apprehended a short distance later and was charged with the active warrant, Failure to Obey and Resisting Arrest. On the same date, Officer Moody initiated a routine traffic stop. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and Xanax tablets. A search of the vehicle located a loaded Colt 45 handgun and marijuana. The passenger was found to be in possession of (19) individually wrapped bags containing marijuana. Both suspects were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana 1st and No Pistol Permit. On April 23, 2012 Officer Moody apprehended a suspect wanted for questioning in a Burglary 3rd case. While searching the suspect, Officer Moody located 11 Lortab tablets, one (1) Hodrocodone capsule, and one (1) marijuana cigarette. The suspect was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana 2nd. On April 25, 2012 Officer Moody responded to a Burglary in progress. Officer Moody began searching the area and located the suspects at a local gas station where they were detained. The suspects were transported back to the scene and were identified by witnesses and were charged with Burglary 3rd Degree. On April 30, 2012 Officer Moody initiated a traffic stop in which the driver fled on foot. Officer Moody was able to catch the suspect who was arrested and charged with a Felony Probation Violation for Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, Eluding Police, Failure to Obey, and Resisting Arrest.
During the month, Officer Moody also responded to (107) calls, (78) backings, made (24) felony arrests, (43) misdemeanor arrests, and issued (46) citations.
