No New Year's Fireworks

The City of Mobile will not hold its annual First Night, family oriented entertainment festival in downtown Mobile this New Year's Eve. More than six months ago, the First Night Board of Directors agreed to a hiatus in 2003 to give them time to re-organize and begin preparing for 2004. Because there is no First Night program this year, the City of Mobile will not sponsor a fireworks display on New Year's Eve.

According to Mayor Mike Dow, First Night board members and volunteers have traditionally raised funds for the New Year's Eve program which included fireworks. "We will miss First Night this year, it has provided a venue for families to celebrate the New Year with arts and entertainment in an alcohol free setting. I hope to see First Night back next year, bigger and better than ever."
