Next Phase of Florida Street Drainage Project to Begin

May 28th, 2008

The City of Mobile Engineering Department has entered into a contract with John. G. Walton Construction, Co. for the construction of Florida Street Drainage Improvements, Phase IA (South of Emogene Street to North of CN Railroad). We anticipate construction to begin 02June08, and culminate approximately March, 2009. The design plan is the same plan presented at a public meeting in 2008.

Phase IA of the project involves dividing the construction into three separate phases. During Phase One, the intersection at Florida Street & Emogene Street will be closed, with “No Through Traffic” in either direction. The intersection closure will commence Monday, 02June2008, at 9:00 a.m. The contractor will assist AT&T in the encasement of numerous phone lines, then construct the box culvert.

During Phase Two, the intersection of Florida Street and Emogene Street will re-open and one lane of local traffic (southbound) will remain open. The contractor will construct the box culvert, then pave and reopen the roadway.

During Phase Three, the contractor will remove the railroad tracks and install the culvert, to complete the project.

Access to residences and business, while limited, will remain open during all phases. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Volkert Construction Services, Inc. at 251-450-0819.
