New Software goes live in the City of Mobile Finance Department

Jan 5th, 2016

MOBILE, Ala. - New software is now up and running in the City of Mobile's Finance Department that will improve efficiency, productivity and accuracy at City Hall.

The City of Mobile purchased Tyler Technology software last year to replace a costly, outdated IT system that was more than three decades old. Implementation has been an ongoing process and the Finance Department is one of the first City departments to go live with the new system.

"In years to come, I truly believe that our decision to purchase the Tyler Technology software will be recognized as one of the most significant actions," said Mayor Stimpson. "This is the next step to move the City's outdated Information Technology system into the 21st Century."

This latest software implementation will transform general ledger, budgeting, grant tracking, project accounting, fixed assets and document records management. For example, the City's payment process is now fully automated meaning paper check requests are no longer necessary. A finance employee can now make a query and report by searching the secure city-wide financial system instead of spending hours printing out documents.

"Once implementation has been completed across City government, the City of Mobile will have technological capability second to none," said Mayor Stimpson. "I want to thank IT Director Sue Farni and her team for shepherding this process. Software conversions of this magnitude are tremendously complex and require countless man-hours of hard work by everyone in the organization."

Parks and Recreation and Municipal Court are currently operational on the Tyler system. Human Resources, Payroll and Police are expected to go live with the new software later this year.
