National Senior Games Association Announces Newest Event

The 2005 National Senior Games Championship Festival Mobile, Alabama


Baton Rouge, LA (June 8, 2004) - - - - National Senior Games Association President & CEO Dr. Bill Bankhead and Mobile Mayor Mike Dow announced today that Mobile, Alabama has been selected to host the 2005 National Senior Games Championship Festival. This 4-sport festival is a new event of the National Senior Games Association (NSGA).

The NSGA, owner of the event, and the Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau (MBCVB), producer of the event, are projecting that approximately 2,550 men and women age 50 and over will go for the gold in the sports of cycling, golf, sailing and tennis. An additional 4,000 out-of-town guests are projected to attend this inaugural event. Cycling and sailing are tentatively scheduled to run concurrently, October 27-30, 2005. Tennis is tentatively scheduled for November 2-6, 2005. Golf is tentatively scheduled for November 9-13, 2005. "This is a great opportunity for the people of Mobile to showcase what our wonderful city has to offer", said Mayor Mike Dow. "We look forward to welcoming these men and women of the Senior Games to our city and hope they will visit again," Dow added.

“The NSGA is proud to be offering this new and exciting Senior Olympic championship opportunity for adults over the age of 50. It is particularly gratifying to be offering sailing for the first time. Mobile and the Mobile Bay area are the perfect location to host this event. This will be a great opportunity for our athletes and a great partnership”, said Dr. Bankhead.

The inaugural National Senior Games Championship Festival is open to all men and women age 50 and over. It will be an annual event and is scheduled to be held in Mobile again in 2006 and 2007. More information can be found on the NSGA web site at www.nsga.com.
