National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico offering free admission to service members, teachers this summer

Mobile, Ala. — The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico will offer free admission to military families and local teachers throughout the summer.

The Museum will once again participate in the Blue Star Museums initiative, which offers free admission to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families. The 2024 program began this past Saturday, May 18, and will end on Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families in collaboration with the Department of Defense and participating museums across America.

Qualified members must show an appropriate military identification card to obtain free admission to a participating Blue Star Museum. You can learn more about the accepted forms of military ID by clicking here. You can find a complete list of participating museums at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

In addition to the Blue Star Museums initiative, the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico will waive admission fees for local teachers and their families this summer. This is one small way the Museum and its staff can recognize the outstanding work teachers across our community do to educate the next generation of Mobilians. This special offer will be available to any local educator beginning May 15 and will continue throughout the summer until August 15.

This is a perfect opportunity for educators, active military members and their families to "Come and Sea" the Museum's many opportunities for exploration, excitement, and entertainment. Exhibits like Take the Helm, Ocean Planet, Discovery Hull, and E.O. Wilson's Field Lab are perfect for teachers who want to share their knowledge of history, science and economics with their families.

If you'd like to learn more about exhibits at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, visit the Museum's recently redesigned website at nmmog.org. The Museum is located at 155 South Water Street in Mobile, Ala. and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The last entries of the day are at 3 p.m. If you have questions about this summer's special admission offers for teachers and military members, please contact the Museum at (251) 436-8901.
