MPD Invites the Community to National Night Out: A Going Away Party for Crime

The Mobile Police Department’s Community Services Division is hosting the city’s “National Night Out… A Going Away Party for Crime” event at Bel Air Mall on Tuesday, August 4 at 6:30 p.m. The goal of the event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. More than 34 million people nationwide participated in the event in 2008.The festivities will begin at the fountain near J.C. Penney promptly at 6:30 p.m. where a “Walk for Peace” throughout the mall will commence. Participants will return to the fountain where Masters of Ceremonies WKRG 5 News Anchors Rose Ann Haven and Mel Showers will introduce numerous instrumental, drill team, vocal, and theatrical performances. McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand and child DNA kits, as well as door prizes will be available.
