Jul 10th, 2009

Officer Greg Evans, an 11-year Mobile Police Department veteran assigned to the Third Precinct, will be awarded as June's Officer of the Month for his performance and numerous arrests during the month.

Officer Evans is responsible for the following arrests in June:

• On June 7, 2009, Officer Evans was on routine patrol when he attempted to make a traffic stop for excessive speed on I-65 near Moffett Rd. When the blue lights were initiated, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The driver eventually stopped on Rosedale Drive and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The driver was charged with Attempting to Elude Police and was issued three traffic citations.

• On June 19, 2008, a suspect armed with a handgun took a vehicle from Wal-Mart at 101 S. Beltline Hwy. Officer Evans observed the vehicle a short time later and, after a vehicle and foot pursuit, the subject was apprehended and charged with Robbery First Degree and was issued two traffic citations.

• In the early morning hours of June 22, Officer Evans responded to U.S.A. Women’s and Children’s Hospital for a suspicious activity complaint. He found a male subject with blood on his shirt attempting to use an ATM. Officer Evans secured the subject in his patrol car and began to investigate. He determined that several vehicles had been broken into during this time frame. Officer Evans found the victims’ property in the subject’s possession. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Breaking and Enter a Vehicle and two counts of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.

During the month of June, Officer Evans was responsible for making eight felony and 12 misdemeanor arrests, as well as answering 98 calls for service and backing fellow officers 55 times. His persistent attention to detail and dedication to his job have significantly contributed to the success of the Mobile Police Department’s efforts to combat crime.
