NEW FIREBOAT TO BE COMMISSIONED

Commissioning/Blessing ceremonies for Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's new fireboat will take place Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Cooper Riverside Park (located next to the Arthur L. Outlaw Convention Center). The new fireboat will be given the name Phoenix, which is derived from a mythical bird that every 500 years is consumed in the flames of a fire, after 3 days it is reborn from the ashes to live another 500 years.

The fireboat is a 40-ft., aluminum hull boat and was built by Silver Ships, Inc. located in Theodore, AL at an estimated cost of $525 thousand. The Phoenix replaces the Ramona Doyle, which was retired in 2003.
