Mobile’s first therapeutic youth marching band ready to roll
Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile’s first therapeutic youth marching band program will make its 2024 Mardi Gras debut during the Bay Port Parading Society’s parade at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27.
The Magnolia Breeze Youth Ensemble was developed in 2013 to provide an inclusive and diverse music and dance program for children with intellectual and physical disabilities. This unique therapeutic program is led by the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD), under the leadership of Band Director LaDarrel Bell. The program not only teaches youth participants instrumental music and dance, but it also focuses on improving their social, emotional and leadership skills.
The Magnolia Breeze Youth Ensemble performs in numerous community events and parades each year in Mobile and has also performed at University Studios in Orlando in previous years. The band will be featured by several parading organizations during the 2024 Mardi Gras Season. These will be great opportunities to get a b-roll of these amazing young Mobilians doing what they love.
If you’re looking for great Mardi Gras content, we are also happy to set up an interview with Band Director LaDarrel Bell. You can find the band’s full 2024 Mardi Gras Parade schedule below:
